Wine & Food in Dunedin

Dunedin has over 140 restaurants, cafes and eating places. Around the Octagon and George Street, visitors can take a stroll and browse the possibilities before choosing a venue for night. Chinese restaurants are a Dunedin specialty - the local Chinese population dates back to the gold rush days.

For fine dining, the locals would recommend Bell Pepper Blues - a quiet, intimate restaurant that occupies the former Prince of Wales Hotel. Waterfront dining can be found at Hightide Waterfront Restaurant, which has panoramic views of Otago Harbour. Restaurant Ninety Five in Filleul Street is housed in Dunedin's famous 'pink house' - it offers outdoor courtyard dining or cosy indoor dining by the open fire.

Visitors can find plenty of choice at the budget end of the culinary scale, because Dunedin is a University City with a large population of young people who are lean on funds, but keen on food.
